Top banana in the West
Howard Hughes bought Air West in 1970, painted the entire fleet sunburst yellow and let everybody call it the Top Banana. DC-9s worked the western map from Mexico to Canada until Republic absorbed it on 1 October 1980. Our Hughes Airwest designs draw on the yellow years — the marks crews wore on the western runs.
